Today, 3/9/2010 12:45 PM - 1:15 PM | Mary Stith House | |||
The world is familiar with the accomplishments of America’s historical giants, men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry. The efforts of these great men were essential to the overthrow of tyranny and the establishment of the United States as a self governing republic. But their contributions were made possible only by the often overlooked people of history on whose shoulders these first line patriots stood. These people, preachers and house servants, enslaved and free, who lived their lives, some heroically and some humbly, were nation builders no less than the Washingtons, Jeffersons and Henrys of history. Have a conversation with Nation Builders as they discuss the "Revolutionary" events that helped to inspire and influence the ideas of their American dream.

Ticketed event. Rated: R Fourteen years ago, he was Mateo Blanco, a film director. After a brutal car crash in Lansarote took both his sight and his wife, Lena (Penélope Cruz), he reduced himself to Harry Caine, a playful pseudonym with which he signs his literary works, stories, and scripts. Unable to direct films, he can only survive by believing that Mateo Blanco died with his beloved Lena. Now, Harry lives with help from his former production manager, Judit Garcia, and her son Diego. Operating with self-induced amnesia, Harry developed his other senses in order to enjoy life. But, when Diego asks about when he answered to the name Mateo Blanco, Harry can’t refuse. Director Pedro Almodóvar presents a moving and terrible story about a man who writes, lives, and loves in darkness. Nominated for a Golden Palm at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Golden Globes. Spanish with subtitles. Mar. 5–7, 9, 11 screening room. 128 mins.
